Never knew I needed a new black dress (not something that I usually search for to buy) until I came across this dress that crossed off all the important boxes for me: it fits loose (love loose clothing), has long sleeves (perfect for fall and winter) and it has that shoulder detail, right? Love the very broad shoulders here as they create that great silhouette and balance out the flouncy bottom. Really, really love the overall easy feel of this dress.
I packed it for the California trip with the girls a couple weeks ago (I promise, a post on that trip will be up soon!) and since then I wore it to my office more than once with a few different accessories. One time I wore it as you see here, with the neck scarf and other times with just a simple necklace but I added black skinny pants and treated the dress like a tunic top (worked perfectly).
A different option just came to my mind – how about a lightweight turtleneck underneath? YES! Love that idea and it will make a great winter outfit for when it gets much colder. Opaque black tights will look so great with it too; then I will throw on some ankle boots and I am set!
Over the weekend I wear it with skinny jeans and again treat it as if it were a tunic top. A couple times I wore it with bare legs on a warmer day. But now those days are gone so I can’t pull off the bare leg look anymore… so jeans it is. If you’re a legging person, it would look great with leggings too. I mean… need I say more? Love the versatility of this dress! I haven’t talked about dressing it up but it can absolutely be dressed up for a fancy occasion because after all it IS a black dress that you can accessorize however you please. As the time goes by I will find a use for this dress time and time again and THAT is priceless to me!
Do you ever purchase a black dress when it seems like you don’t need one but then you find so many uses for it you know that that purchase is well justified? Maybe it’s not a black dress but a different item in your closet that is that one item you reach for repeatedly and you know you’ll keep it forever? Would love to hear so please leave me a comment right below.
